DO YOU ACCEPT ILLINOIS MEDICAID FOR COUNSELING SERVICES?

Yes. We proudly accept Illinois Medicaid for mental health and counseling services. Our practice is committed to making therapy accessible to Medicaid clients across the state of Illinois. If you are an Illinois Medicaid member searching for counseling or therapy, we welcome you to reach out and see how we can support you.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST IF I DON'T HAVE INSURANCE?

The full fee for psychotherapy sessions is $200 an hour. If you do not have insurance or you are paying out of pocket for any reason we do have a sliding scale program. We are committed to providing psychotherapy to the uninsured and we do not turn clients away due to an inability to pay.

Reduced fee sessions vary based on a few factors, including the availability of the therapist you are seeing. Please inquire about sliding scale rates, when you contact us and we’ll do our best to work with you.

Patients who are paying out-of-pocket (not using insurance to pay for services) are entitled to a Good Faith Estimate, which is an estimate of how much they will be charged for the mental health services they will be receiving, prior to their first appointment. Please visit https://www.dol.gov/agencies/ebsa/laws-and-regulations/laws/no-surprises-act for more information about the requirements of the No Surprises Act.

WHAT IF I HAVE INSURANCE THROUGH A COMPANY YOU ARE NOT IN NETWORK WITH?

If you have insurance coverage through another insurance company, it may be in your best interest to call them directly to find therapists in-network who can accept your insurance. If you decide you do want to proceed with services with us, we will provide you a superbill on a monthly basis to provide to your insurance company. These services would count towards your Out-of-Network reimbursement. It is a good idea to become familiar with your out-of-network benefits, to understand how your coverage works for out-of-network services.

DO YOU ACCEPT HSA or FSA PLANS?

Yes. You can use HSA and FSA funds to pay for psychotherapy, including copays, deductibles, or full-fee sessions.

We do not accept HRA checks or personal checks. Payment is by debit or credit card only, and we require one on file. You’ll pay us directly, then request reimbursement from your plan if needed.

DO YOU TAKE OUT OF STATE INSURANCE?

Yes, as long as it is Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, or Aetna PPO plans.

DO I HAVE TO LIVE IN NAPERVILLE TO BE SEEN AT THIS PRACTICE?

Not at all. Our practice serves clients throughout the entire state of Illinois and we have another location in Hickory Hills. We work especially with Illinois Medicaid clients, who often face challenges finding consistent counseling and mental health services in their area. Whether you live in Chicago, Springfield, Rockford, Peoria, or anywhere else in Illinois, we welcome inquiries from Medicaid clients across the state. If you are an Illinois Medicaid member searching for counseling or therapy services, our practice is here to help.

HOW DOES THERAPY WORK? WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO IN SESSIONS?

In your first session, the therapist will ask questions about your presenting concerns, as well as your history and background. Most likely, you’ll find yourself talking about your current symptoms or struggles, as well discussing your relationships, your interests, your strengths, and your goals. Because each person has different issues and goals for therapy, therapy will be different depending on the individual. We tailor our therapeutic approach to your specific needs. Most importantly, in that first session, you will begin making a connection with your therapist. You should feel safe, accepted, respected, and relatively comfortable. Not all therapists are right for every person, so use your first session to assess whether or not the therapist you chose feels like a good match for your personality. In subsequent sessions, you will work with the therapist on achieving your therapeutic goals.

HOW LONG WILL I BE IN THERAPY FOR?

Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time can vary in accomplishing your goals.  It depends on your current level of functioning, your desire for personal development, your commitment and motivation, and the factors that are driving you to seek therapy in the first place. Therapy is unique in that its ultimate goal is for you to be ready to leave therapy. It also provides an opportunity to practice a very important life skill: talking through the emotions associated with ending a relationship, and saying goodbye in a positive and relationship-affirming way. Because of this, we believe that having an identified termination session is a very important part of therapy. Termination sessions are an important time to develop closure by reviewing what you’ve learned about yourself, which goals you haven’t reached in therapy and what to do about them, how to maintain your gains, and how you feel about the relationship ending. This is why we encourage you to address the following questions with your therapist during the first few sessions: “under what conditions will we end, and what will that ending look like?”

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING

Our psychological evaluations are structured into a simple, three-step process designed to provide comprehensive and personalized insights:

1. Clinical Interview

The process begins with a one-hour clinical interview conducted by the doctor. During this time, we gather detailed background information, including medical, psychiatric, and academic history.

When appropriate, the doctor may consult with referring providers or request relevant medical records to ensure a thorough assessment.

Clinical interviews are either conducted virtually or in-person, depending on preference, as well as what’s clinically necessary.

2. Psychological Testing

You will then complete a series of assessments, which may include both pen-and-paper tasks and computerized cognitive tests, along with standardized questionnaires. These are administered one-on-one by a psychologist and may take 4 to 8 hours, depending on individual needs.

3. Feedback Session

Approximately two-three weeks after testing, you will meet with the doctor for a feedback appointment. During this session, the results of your evaluation will be reviewed, and personalized recommendations will be discussed. A written report will be provided and faxed to any referring provider upon request.

Feedback sessions can be conducted in person or virtually, unless in-person follow-up is clinically indicated.

ARE YOU SEEING CLIENTS IN PERSON OR TELEHEALTH?

Our psychotherapists are seeing clients via telehealth and in person. Please mention your preference when inquiring about services. Telehealth and in-person therapy both have advantages and disadvantages. Telehealth was essential during the Covid-19 pandemic and we have learned a lot about the benefits and drawbacks of this service.

Telehealth has the benefit of eliminating travel time for your appointment and you can have your session within the comfort of your own home. Most clients report that they receive the same benefit as attending face-to-face sessions.

In-person may feel more connected and personal, especially when forming a relationship with a new therapist. However, many new clients came to therapy during the covid pandemic and started therapy via telehealth, and found it just as beneficial.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR A TELEHEALTH SESSION?

Prior to your first session, you will have discussed the steps to connect to the Telehealth session with our intake coordinator. Choose a location that is private and comfortable for you to be in during the duration of the session (assuring your privacy). Many of our clients simply choose to say that they are Skyping or Facetiming with a friend, or on a work call. Check your internet service to make sure you have a strong signal or you can use your cellular service. Make sure the lighting is adequate in the location you choose to have your session.

CAN ILLINOIS MEDICAID CLIENTS ACCESS ONLINE COUNSELING WITH YOUR PRACTICE?

Yes. We offer telehealth counseling sessions for Illinois Medicaid clients throughout the state. If you live in a smaller town or rural part of Illinois and struggle to find providers who accept Medicaid, online counseling makes it easy to access therapy from the comfort of your home

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

Your scheduled session is a time we reserve exclusively for you. If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, we require a minimum of 24 hours' notice. This allows us to offer that time to another client who may be waiting for support. If you miss a session without prior cancellation, or do not cancel with a 24 hour notice, you will be required to adhere to our policy below, unless we mutually agree that you were unable to attend the session due to an illness or emergent circumstances beyond your control.

1. Any established client who fails to show or cancel/reschedule an appointment and has not contacted our office or their therapist with at least 24 hours notice will be considered a No show and charged a $50.00 fee.
2. Any established client who fails to show or cancel/reschedule an appointment with no 24 hour notice a SECOND TIME will be charged a $100.00 fee.
3. If a third No show or cancellation/reschedule with no 24 hour notice should occur the client will be charged a $150.00 fee and may be dismissed from Mindful Mindset Wellness Center.
4. The fee is charged to the client, not the insurance company, and is due by the time of the client's next appointment. We frame this not as a penalty, but as a way to honor the professional time and dedicated space we hold for you each week.

*As a courtesy, when time allows, we send reminder emails for appointments. If you do not receive a reminder email, the above Policy will remain in effect.

**Cancellation policy is different for Medicaid clients

HOW FREQUENT ARE SESSIONS?

Most clients would benefit from committing to meeting weekly, especially in the beginning. The frequency of psychotherapy depends on your needs and your therapist will make recommendations about how often you should come. Some clients are best served by committing to a weekly time, however, clients can also book sessions with their therapist based on their needs and availability.

IS IT HARD TO FIND THERAPISTS WHO TAKE ILLINOIS MEDICAID?

Yes, many Illinois Medicaid clients report difficulty finding mental health providers who accept Medicaid. That’s why our practice is dedicated to welcoming Medicaid clients across Illinois. We believe every Illinois Medicaid member deserves access to quality counseling and therapy services, no matter where they live.
